The Latest Review of Budapest Restaurant
Sent on the 11th of April, 2008
The Budapest is gem that has been around for years. It is a classic Ethnic/Roadfood eatery in an older part of town, between the Toledo Hospital and Toledo Museum of Art on Monroe St. Sporting new green striped awnings, the restaurant has an old counter with original seats, plus two dining rooms. Pans of the day's freshly made desserts, (apple, cherry or cheese strudels, for example) sit temptingly atop the counter. The menu is short and straightforward, with typical Hungarian dishes served in mammoth portions at reasonable prices. The homemade dumplings with white gravy are exemplary, and they are available with every dinner, along with mashed potatoes and a salad. A few of the most mouthwatering entrees are enormous breaded veal cutlets or pork chops, beef goulash, chicken paprikas, and stuffed cabbage rolls. Real comfort food on a cold, wintery night (and they are open for lunches.) No credit cards, so bring (not much) cash. Shelley
